They saying goes that “two heads are better than one.” Well, in the case of Brendon Payne and Greg Harrelson of CENTURY 21 The Harrelson Group, two mountain climbers training together are definitely better than one. Brendon and Greg, both members of the 2012 Climb for Kids team, not only work together every day, but they’ve taken on this new challenge together and are combining their passion and energy into one amazing training regimen. We sat down with Brendon to learn more about their prep for Mexico.

C21: You are doing the Climb for Kids with your colleague, Greg. Tell us about how you two met.

BP: Greg owns CENTURY 21 The Harrelson Group where I work as an agent. We are both ranked in the Top 10 agents in the Myrtle Beach, SC market of about 2,800 agents.

C21: Are you two experienced climbers?

BP: This is the first big climb that either of us have taken on. We are both Crossfit regulars, but climbing a mountain will be totally new for us.

C21: How are you training?

BP: We both have a morning routine of 5:00am workouts that range from Crossfit to cardio training to core workouts. When we committed to this challenge we changed up our routine and in addition to continuing our Crossfit regimen, we hired a professional climbing and fitness company to design a workout routing specifically preparing us for the type of climb we will be doing in Mexico.

C21: What type of routine did the trainer develop for you?

BP: Our routine includes extended inclined treadmill workouts with weighted backpacks, 3-5 hour hikes with weighted packs, as well as parking garage and stadium workouts.

C21: You both travel quite a bit, how do you train on the road?

BP: During a recent real estate Seminar, we were away from home and with no “equipment” so we simply modified one of the workouts to a one hour “climb” up and down through the 18 story hotel stairwell.

C21: Now that the climb is almost here, how are you feeling?

BP: Greg has created a “culture of contribution” within our office and by nature we are both continually searching for that next adventure, so when the opportunity presented itself to combine this adventure with an opportunity to contribute to the children and families of Easter Seals, it was an easy decision for us and one that we both feel extremely fortunate to be a part of.  We’re ready!
