Amy Winklhofer Makes History With Buffalo-Niagra Association Of Realtors
Today in our “Meet the Agent” series we get to know Amy Winklhofer of CENTURY 21 Winklhofer. For Amy, real estate is a family affair. She works with her parents and brother at CENTURY 21 Winklhofer and she and her father have both been honored with the title of President of the Buffalo-Niagra Association of Realtors. Read on to hear how Amy’s recent appointment as association president made history.
C21: You were just named the President of the Buffalo-Niagara Association of Realtors, congratulations! What does this role entail and what are you looking forward to most?
AW: It is definitely a hands on job. It is interesting helping the association move forward and meeting different people from around the country. The meetings are not so different from a CENTURY 21 convention, the networking is great!
C21: You are the youngest women to ever be named President of the Buffalo-Niagara Association of Realtors, how does it feel to make history?
AW: It is an awesome responsibility. I think I am more proud of the fact that my father and I are the first ever father/daughter presidents in the 108 year history of our association, my dad in 1983 and me in 2012.
C21: Your parents have been CENTURY 21 System members for 34 years. Did you always know you wanted to be part of the real estate business?
AW: No! I actually fought it for years! Now I wish I started younger.
C21: Your brother, Eric, is a broker in your office. Any friendly, sibling competition?
AW: Always, but never cut throat. Eric manages our Grand Island office and I am in Clarence. The markets are very different but we always like to tease each other. That’s what siblings are for.
C21: As a member of the oldest CENTURY 21 franchise in Western New York, how do you keep things fresh?
AW: Education! Keeping up to date on trends is very important.
C21: We’ve seen your office’s Facebook page and your team is doing a great job sharing a mix of listings, corporate news and real estate industry news. When it comes to Facebook, what is your strategy?
AW: We just keep our name out there but don’t nag or overwhelm people. We have received several deals due to social media.
C21: Name the three qualities necessary to succeed in real estate.
AW: 1) Self discipline
2) Networking/prospecting
3) Follow-up
C21: Our company mantra is “Smarter. Bolder. Faster.” How do you embody the mantra in your day-to-day work?
AW: Utilizing the CENTURY 21 System is the smartest thing a CENTURY 21 agent can do. Having a terrific support system at the office is so important, especially this year, the role of association president is very time consuming. Knowing my office is there to cover for me helps me to be bolder and faster.
C21: If you could give one piece of advice to a young person starting out in the real estate business, what would it be?
AW: You can be as big as you want. Patience and tenacity will get you anywhere.
C21: When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time?
AW: Having fun and laughing with my friends over a great meal and a nice glass of wine.
