Today in our “Meet the Agent” series we get to know Laurie Larsen of CENTURY 21 Premier Group in Wisconsin. Laurie has been with CENTURY 21 for over 24 years and lists perseverance, a positive attitude and killer networking skills as her three must-haves to succeed in real estate.
C21: How did you first get into real estate?
LL: My husband saw an ad in the newspaper and when I interviewed I loved the owners of the CENUTRY 21 office as well as the idea of being in real estate. I still share Vikings tickets with the owners of the office I started with, even though they sold the company and retired 20 years ago.
C21: Do you remember your first sale?
LL: Yes, of course. I sold a friend of a friend a cute rambler and then later, re-sold the property for them.
C21: When you bought your first home, what made you fall in love it?
LL: The location! It was over a creak and through the woods. It was a horrible house, but years of work has made it a great home.
C21: Your area of focus is Western Wisconsin. For those who may not be familiar, what makes this real estate market special and unique?
LL: We are only minutes to St. Paul. This is a great community of the Twin Cities metro area.
C21: How do you maintain relationships with clients after they buy a home? It could several years before they are ready to move again.
LL: I use the preferred client club, I send four mailing a year and just being around town!
C21: How important are referrals?
LL: I couldn’t make it without them!
C21: Name the three qualities necessary to succeed in real estate.
LL: Perseverance, positive attitude and constant contact/networking.
C21: Our company mantra is “Smarter. Bolder. Faster.” How do you embody the mantra in your day-to-day work?
LL: I have the gold phone cover with that mantra emblazoned on it, so I look at it every day and try to live by it.
C21: Are you using any forms of social media for business? What do you find generates the most leads?
As far as social media goes, it has to be Facebook, but you’d be surprised how many calls I still get from yard signs.
C21: If you could give one piece of advice to a young person starting out in the real estate business, what would it be?
LL: This is a real job – show up every day ready to work.
C21: When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your free time?
LL: I like to spend any free time I have at our lake house with my family and friends.
