Beginning your real estate career is an exciting and energizing adventure, but at times, it can also feel overwhelming. We asked our System members for their best piece of advice for real estate professionals just entering the field. Follow their lead and you’ll be closing in no time.

1. Ask why

Pre-qualify every client by asking why they want to buy or sell now. You may be anxious to get those first few transactions under your belt, but avoid wasting your valuable time working with buyers who are not ready to purchase or unmotivated sellers. Lori Malin, http://LoriMalin.com

2. Commit to the business

Treat this like a business and put the work in. Show up every day and work your leads, dress the part and be hungrier than the veterans. This approach is a true advantage for a rookie. You are now your own boss. Eat, sleep, and breathe the business for the first five years. That’s how you become an expert. Never stop learning, as this is an ever changing business. 3. Carve out time for learning

Learn, learn, learn! Learn how to be a better listener. Learn from your continuing education and brokerage programs. Learn how to let challenges roll off your back and only fuel your fire to do better. Richard Harbin, http://rharbin.knoxvillehomesite.com/

4. Seek out a mentor

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Find an agent you respect with great results and ask them to point you in the right direction. Hire a real estate coach. Having someone guide you, hold you accountable, pump you up, and listen when things don’t go as well as you’d like is priceless! Also, don’t forget to smile and have a positive attitude. People are attracted to happy, positive people! Michelle Russell Camaioni, http://www.c21nm.com/

5. Track leads

Set up a database and never stop adding names to it. It will be your lifeline! Linda Lookabill Hall, http://www.fortmillsc.com/

6. Prioritize your clients over your commission

Care more about your clients than you care about your commission check. Your priorities will show and they will know! When you truly care, your commission check will come without worry. Joan Houck Parker, http://www.c21united.com/

7. Lace up

Buy a good pair of walking shoes, you’re going to need them! Jana Amlung, http://agentjana.com/
